Google, Firefox and Bill eating Apple
A few interesting news stories I've been watching:
- Google Inc. plans to raise about $4 billion US by selling 14.2 million more shares
In a typical Google approach, the exact number of shares to be sold — 14,159,265 — happens to be the eight digits after the decimal point in the value Pi. - For the first time since Firefox launched in November 2004, its share of the web browser market has slipped
During the same period, Internet Explorer, by far the most popular browser, regained market share. (Are people actually going back to IE?) - Apple took too long to file a patent on part of its blockbuster iPod music players, so Microsoft jumped in and beat Apple to it
Tech pundits are snickering at the prospect of Apple having to pay Bill Gates big royalties on the hugely popular iPods, which account for more than a third of Apple's revenue.
