Opera is fast!

I'm really looking forward to the release of Firefox 1.5. One of the things I'm hoping for with this release is faster page rendering. I just fired up Opera 8.5 and I find it to be much faster than Firefox, both to launch and render pages. Scrolling is really fast in Opera. I don't enjoy Opera's interface as much as Firefox's though.

I also hope that Real Player works better in Firefox 1.5. I've never been able to check out audio samples at Amazon using Firefox; Real Player won't load and play the clips. So, I usually launch IE to do any audio browsing. I've looked in the MozillaZine forums for clues to solve this, but didn't find that the solutions did the trick for me.

I upgraded to Opera 8.51 yesterday and started to surf immediately. I did not find Opera to render pages faster than Firefox and much less than Flock. I've read too many posts about Opera being faster than Firefox, but I just don't see it.

To surf the web, I use Flock (still under Beta) because of its speed. To post my blogs I use Firefox due to its great functionality with photos, tabs, spellers and personalized extensions.

Regarding, audio browsing at Amazon, I have no problems with Firefox. There must be a missing plug-in with your Firefox browser. FYI, I'm using Firefox v1.07, and can't wait 'till 1.5 hit the streets (soon).

Those are my two cents, for whatever they're worth.

    Cheers,

    Omar.-

Thanks for your comments, Omar! I'm looking forward to running some tests with Opera against FF 1.5. I upgraded a couple of weeks ago to FF 1.5, but most of the plugins I use were not yet ready for the new release, so I downgraded. I haven't tried Flock yet, though I grabbed a development download about 6 weeks ago. It's really fast, eh?

I'll have to investigate the FF/Amazon thing again. I went through a bunch of plugin related fixes that were posted in the MozillaZine forums, but nothing worked for me. I'll give it a spin with FF 1.5.

    cheers
    SAM :)
