CBC.ca redesign drops Mac IE 5 support

Some of you may have noticed: CBC.ca launched a redesign this week. CBC is my home page and frankly, the jury is still out on what I think about the new design. Part of my resistance to it is just the human reluctance to change. Once I get beyond that, I'll be able to evaluate […]

Installing PEAR on Mac OS X

I recently used the wonderful PHP Apache module for Mac OS X from Mark Liyanage's entropy.ch website. I was very impressed with how easily it upgraded my Mac's default PHP 4 installation. I highly recommend this package for those wanting to run PHP locally on a Mac.
Unfortunately, I'm having problems with getting PHP to […]

Mac + Firefox + Gmail = Nada

I haven't been able to login to Gmail using Firefox 1.0.7 on my Mac for over a week. I get past the redirect page, the AJAX "Loading" message shows at top right, then "Done" appears in the status bar, but the page is blank. I have to use Safari to get in. Anyone else in […]

News readers for Mac

On my Windows work station, I use Thunderbird to manage my news feeds. On my Mac, I only use web mail, so I don't have Thunderbird installed. Thus, I recently set out in search of the perfect freeware news reader for Mac.
I first tried the obvious, NetNewsWire Lite. Apparently, even the feature set of […]

PHP IDEs for Mac

Lately, I've been eager to escape the confines of using text editors for PHP development (apologies to TextPad and BBEdit). Macromedia Studio MX doesn't dazzle me for PHP scripting, but I'm curious about how the new Studio 8 shapes up. In the meantime, it's off to the races to find a good PHP IDE, preferably […]

Discontinue support for IE 5.x Mac?

I'm considering halting support of IE 5.x on the Mac. I really can't stand the browser. It's 3 years old, buggy as hell and discontinued by Microsoft anyway. I'm tired of having to use multiple CSS hacks to make it behave. Among Mac users, there still seems to be alot of people using it though. […]
