Installed Gallery 1.5 today

I decided to not wait for the much anticipated G2 release of the popular Gallery photo album application, and went ahead and installed v1.5 on my DenmanIsland.com website this evening (Yes, on a Saturday night!)

I was surprised that no database was required. The installation was quite easy. The administration interface design is a bit old school, but all the functionality is there. A usability upgrade would be a good idea (what's with the "Dismiss" button?) Initial customization was also pretty easy, but more intensive customization is made more complex by some obtuse locations of appearance-generating code inside core files. A better templating system is needed. I don't like applications that force me to modify core files to customize front-end appearance. Next upgrade, and… poof! I'll lose my changes unless I note them carefully (which I didn't). All in all though, a very slick open source app!
